On the 13th of February, the employees of Xollin Animal Shelter in Michoacan, Mexico found a cardboard box outside their shelter containing a Pit Bull puppy. The little creature was hurt and had a stuffed toy with it along with a note from a melancholic kid.
I am a 12-year-old boy named AndrĂ©s, and I have entrusted my dog’s well-being to you. My mother and I have hidden him from my father, who plans to sell him. Unfortunately, my dad is abusive towards our furry friend and has even hurt him before. It breaks my heart every time I see my dog getting kicked around by him. I am writing this letter in the hope that you will take good care of him.
I have left behind a stuffed animal for my dog so that he won’t forget me. It’s really hard for me to part ways with him, but I know that you will provide him with a loving home. Thank you for your help in keeping my dog safe and happy.
At the bottom of the letter, I drew a sad face instead of a signature because it pains me to have to leave my dog behind.
The tragic tale of Andrés was shared by employees of the shelter on their social media page. The post garnered a lot of attention, and people flooded the comments section with positive messages for the young boy. Many expressed their admiration for his selflessness in thinking about the safety of the puppy before his own. One comment in particular stood out, expressing the wish to comfort Andrés and hoping that his father changes for the better. The writer acknowledged that although the father may be struggling, it does not justify his cruel actions.
In no time, the shelter received over 300 inquiries from families across the nation who desired to adopt Rene, the adorable little puppy. Although the overwhelming response was touching, the staff made sure to remind everyone that they had an additional 120 dogs that also require homes and love. The staff posted on Facebook that if everyone was as compassionate as this little pup, all their dogs would have found a forever home by now.
After undergoing treatment for an injured tail and getting dewormed, Rene, the dog rescued by Andrés, has been given a clean bill of health by a veterinarian. The heartwarming story of Andrés and Rene has spurred some animal lovers in the area to take action and become involved with the shelter. Xollin staff expressed gratitude towards those who have offered to help protect other animals that are victims of abuse or neglect. They have promised to find the perfect family for Rene.
